Pharmacy (Pharm – D)
The objective of this 5 years undergraduate degree program is to train pharmacy practitioners to possess leadership qualities, advanced expertise and clinical experience that enable them to be at the forefront of the pharmacy profession and health care in a variety of settings; institutional, community practice, government, academia, and industry and drug development. The curriculum emphasizes a patient-centered course of study and involves a structure that will enable students to develop into reflective practitioners with skills and attitudes to evaluate critically and modify practices in a timely and effective manner.
The approved Pharm.D curriculum has been designed / formulated to prepare Quality Pharmacists who will have the capacity, up to date knowledge, strong ethical values, behavior, communication, writing & social skills that will enable them to pursue careers in: 1) Pharmaceutical care in health systems & community environments where appropriate medication usage and patient’s safety is paramount.
2) Pharmaceutical Industry & its quality systems.
3) Pharma covigilance / Patient safety & safe medication usage in community & health care systems.
4) Academia and Research.
5) Managed Patient Care as a member of multidisciplinary health care team.
6) Keeping stakeholders in the pharmaceutical sector up to date on the implications of WTO TRIPS.
About Pharmacy Council of Pakistan
Pharmacy Council of Pakistan is a professional body responsible for the registration of pharmacists and promotion of pharmacy education in the country.
The Pharmacy Council Pakistan (PCP) is the regulator established in terms of the Pharmacy Act, 1967 to regulate pharmacists, pharmacy support personnel and pharmacy premises in Pakistan. Our mandate is to protect, promote and maintain the health, safety, and well-being of patients and the public who use pharmaceutical services in Pakistan.
Pakistan Pharmacy Act 1967
This act is establish in 8 February 1973 to regulate the practice of pharmacy.Within a period of one year from the commencement of this Act; The Central Government shall, by notification in the official Gazette, establish a Central Pharmacy Council to be known by the name of the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan; and Each provincial Government shall in like manner, establish a provincial Pharmacy Council to be known by the name of the province concerned.Each of the Pharmacy Councils established under sub section (1) shall be a body corporate having perpetual succession and common seal, with power, among others, to acquire, hold and dispose off property, and shall by its name sue and be sued.
The funds of the Central Council shall consist of such moneys as maybe placed at its disposal by the Central Government where as The funds of a Provincial Council shall consist of the fees received by it under this Act and of such moneys as may be placed at its disposal by the Provincial Government.
As of 2014 the president of Pakistan pharmacy council is HUSSNAIN ASIF CH PHARMACY FROM UNIVERSITY OF LAHORE.
Pakistan Pharmacists Association
Pakistan Pharmacists Association (PPA) is the national organization of pharmacists and student pharmacists, committed to providing leadership for the pharmacists. PPS has a mission to promote and expand the profession of pharmacy and the role of pharmacists in Pakistan. PPS is dedicated to improve public health and patient care by enhancing professional development of the pharmacists and the Pakistan pharmacy council.PPS’s website is an online source of drug information, news about the world of pharmacists and an opportunity for pharmacists to link up, share ideas and develop communities of interest.
Objectives of Pakistan Pharmacists Association
To promote pharmacy as an essential component of the healthcare team and to serve as primary catalyst for this change.To contribute to continuing education programmes for pharmacists already engaged in practice to improve the medication use and health outcomes of patients.To promote high standards of professional conduct amongst pharmacists in order to improve medication use.To provide leadership in the identification, development and implementation of health policies of concern to pharmacy.To hold seminars, symposia, exhibitions and conferences in order to foster national and international collaborations.To liaise with health professional organizations and others in order to achieve aforementioned objectives.To increase the quality of pharmacists education.
Pharmacy Graduates’ Association of Pakistan is a non-governmental, non-commercial, non-profit and non-political organization established by the pharmacists in 2011. The goal to establish PGA is to resolve issues of pharmacy profession including rights of pharmacists, awareness among public for the importance of pharmacists & their role in the healthcare system.
